Endnote plugin in word 2013

Hi everybody

I have endnote X6 and I have Ms word 2013 installed on my computer. The problem is that in endnote toolbar the only option I get for insert my citation is for endnote web. I have checked the Preferences and application menus as well and I am not able to find endnote only. I was using this endnote for inserting my citation until yesterday. But now I am not able to see it. Please help me in activating the endnote  NOT endnote web plugin in my word 2013.

I will be very thankful to you

I’m looking for endnote plugin in Word 2013. Where can I find that?

If you are not seeing the option to switch to EndNote from EndNote Web in the Applications drop-down of the Cite While You Write preferences, the EndNote X6 tools may be disabled. Please see the following article for steps to re-enable:

http://endnote.com/kb/82599

If this does not resolve the issue, please Repair the installation of EndNote X6 in the Programs and Features Control Panel.

Hello Jason

I run Endnote X6 on 64-bit Windows 7. It worked well with Office 2013 until I installed Visio 2013. I have since lost the endnote tab in word. I have tried to re-install and/or re-enable using “Options add-in” in Word. Noe of these strategies worked. One thing I noticed is that when configuring endnote, on the “Select Components to Install” screen, the checkbox is greyed-out and cannot be selected.

Is there a way around this problem. This could get costly for me if I cannot resove it soon.

Thank you.

Hello Kipper,

This may indicate an issue with your installation of EndNote. If you have the EndNote installer and your Product Key, you can uninstall the software through the Control Panel and re-install. If you do not have the EndNote X6 installer, you can download it here:

If you still do not have the tools in Word 2013 after re-installing EndNote X6, please try the steps found in this article:

If you are still not able to get the tools to appear, please contact Technical Support:

Regardless of what I do I keep on getting the message: EndNote CWYW.dll was not a valid Office add-in.

Hi everyone!

Is Endnote 9 compatible with word 2013??

if yes how to add Endnote toolbars to word?

Thank you

I believe trying to use software that is over 8 years old with Word 2013, is not the best approach.  You should upgrade. to the current version.  (PS they don’t upgrade every year any longer, either, So X7 has been around at least two years, now, possibly 3 - I have lost track and it is my understanding that they allow you to upgrade from any version).

Endnote 9 softwhere is no longer supported by the company and I know there were issues with using it with 2007-- After all, they are now on version 17 (X7) and Word has been updated at least 3-4 times since Endnote 9 was released?

(I do NOT work for the company.)

EndNote 9 is not compatible with Word 2013. EndNote X7 is the only software designed for compatibility with Word 2013, but users with EndNote X4, X5 and X6 can install the tools. Please see the section on Office 2013 in this article for details:

If you need to use Word 2013, I would suggest upgrading to EndNote X7. If you are not able to upgrade EndNote, you can try installing a compatible version of Word for EndNote 9.

Hi everyone,

i have endnote X6 running on Ms Word 2013 since last year. It just happen today that my Endnote toolbar missing from my Ms Words 2013. So what I did is I activate my Endnote Cite While Your Write from Add-Ins. My Endnote working perfectly well as usual.

However, everytime I close my Ms Words and restart, the Endnote toolbar keep missing and need to be activated over and over again from Add-Ins (Endnote Cite Ehile You Write always in the inactivated list).

Does anybody has any suggestion so that the Toolbar won’t missing again.
