I’m updating the EndNote Web for MS Word and IE plug-ins. Is it normal that it’s taking more than 30 minutes to run? It’s thrashing the hard disk at a step called “Searching for installed applications…”
Never had an install of such a small software take so long… what is up?
Make sure that any anti-virus and anti-spyware programs are disabled while installing EndNote Web plug-in. Additionally, make sure that you are saving the installer to your local hard drive, close all open programs including Internet Explorer and then try installing the plug-in. If the issue continues, you can search for the Windows.old folder (usually can be found from C:). Windows.old is a folder created by Windows when you choose custom installation. This folder contains the files, folders and drivers from previous Windows version. You can refer to the below link for more information on this, http://www.notebooks.com/2010/01/13/what-is-windows-old-folder-and-how-to-delete-it-safely/ You would need to make a backup of this Windows.old folder and delete it from the original location and then try installing EndNote Web plug-in. Thank you, Anil
