hello all, i have windows vista home premium OS and i am currently using word 2007. i have gone through the FAQ of endnote website but still unable to show endnote toolbar in add-in of word 2007. i tried a lot but all in vein. pls help
I am having the exact same problem. I have Endnote X.0.2 running on Vista Home Premium (64-bit) with Word 2007. I have also followed the instructions to make X2 version of Endnot work with Word 2007 but to no avail. This is becoming a big problem! I ran the two programs successfully on my old computer which had the XP operating system.
Despite of the Thomson Reuter’s claim that “Endnote is fully compatible with Vista 64 bit” or “Endnote works with Word 2007”, I’ve seen here at the forum clearly more problems and issues related to Vista, particularly 64 version, and Word 2007, than problems with XP and Word 2003. To make things worse, the developer’s response is sometimes (or often) “we are unable to reproduce the same issue in our testing” or “the problem is probably due to the language that makes Word add-in”, which is a meaningless blaming game for end users.
This information may not be a real help for you, but it is reality. I suggest you to call directly Thomson Reuter about your problem with a hope they can assist individual problems.
So, I’ve been waiting (long long time) for the next version of Windows 7, hoping it improves the situation. But even with the Windows 7 is out, I will install it in just one computer and test all my essential programs work flawlessly or not, before I upgrade other computers. When Vista was out, we did so and found too many problems, and our institute decided to stay with XP. Even we buy new PCs with Vista, we wipe out hard drive and install XP. Vista to me is such a lame duck operating system. And I don’t like Word 2007’s “tool bar clutter”.
If you don’t like this kind of “downgrade” ideas, check other posts about Vista and Word 2007, and call Thomson Reuter. That’s all I can say.
Thanks! After a few hours of probing around, I did manage to solve the problem. I followed the instructions at the following link:
http://www.adeptscience.co.uk/kb/articleprint.php?noteid=138C2
I had to manually install the following files for Endnote 10 in the Word 2007 startup file.
EN10CWYW.dot and EN10CWYW.WordXp.wll
As they suggest, you may have to follow their instructions to be sure you can see file extensions (one of mine was hidden, while the other was not). As the article also mentions, the Word Startup file is NOT in the same location as it is in XP. I followed the instructions at the above link and managed to find it.
Once you are successful, pay close attention to the NOTE at the bottomof the page.
After launching Word in Step 8 and verifying that the Endnote toolbar appears in the Add-Ins tab, SHUT word down WITHOUT using any of the tools. Just be sure they are there.
THEN, open Endnote and an Endnote library, then re-open Word and click on an Endnote tool. If you don’t follow this order, problems will result.
Good luck!
