EndNote X2 freezes Word 2004 when trying to type any accented character (Spanish) on Word

Hi,

EndNote X2 version 12.0.1 freezes Word 2004 version 11.5.3 when tryint to type any accented character (eg., Spanish) on Word on Mac OS X 10.5.6 on iMac G5 2GHz PowerPC 20-inch. Console says:

Then I turned off the WYSIWYG font menus on Word (Tools/Customize/Customize Toolbars/Menus/Toolbars), yet the crash persists:

No problem on Mac mini Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz.

Office 2004 Freezes when typing accents

Hi - we have a strange problem a few weeks ago Microsoft Word 2004 started freezing whenever a a letter with an accent (in Spanish) is typed. Otherwise everything works fine.

Has anyone seen this before?

The OS is 10.5.6 the machine is a PPC G5.

These console items look related to Applescript. Are you using Applescript for anything on this system? Anything specific to EndNote and/or Word?

Most of the console messages are warnings about the AppleScript suite definition.

They are not related to CWYW, ort anything EndNote or Word is doing, and are generated when EndNote is loaded and the script suit is registered with the system.

Do you get a crsh log?

If so, could you post the crash log here.

Thanks for the replies. The problem arose after installing EndNote X2 and now persists even if EndNote X2 is not open. No crash. No use of Applescript. Most of the times console says nothing when Word 2004 freezes. No problem on Intel Mac. Problem only on PowerPC Mac.

Amazingly, when the issue shows and Word 2004 freezes, if I move the mouse pointer to a corner to activate Expose AND I HAVE OTHER WORD DOCUMENT OPEN (even a blank one) and click on such second document window, then the freezing goes away and I can return to the original Word document and keep on working. Until the next time it strikes. Amazing!

I have a similar problem, although I don’t type any Spanish. On my Mac (OSX, 10.5, Word 2004, Endnote 10.0.2) Word freezes as soon as I try to type an accent or a quotation mark: ".

Thanks for the mouse-exposé-other doc hint, but it doesn’t seem a real solution in the long run. No one with an answer?

Marjolein
