Endnote X4 not supported in OS X Mavericks

Hi I just updated to OS X Mavericks today and found that my Endnoe X4 stopped working on it. Can Thomson Reters please issue an update to solve the compatibility issue?

The error message I got is:

Unable to load: /Applications/Endnote X4/EndNote X4.app/Contents/Resources/EndCore.bundle

I got the same message after loading OS X Mavericks; I am using X5 though.  EndNote won’t open and keeps occasionally bouncing in the dock.

I am also using End Note X5 and got the same error message, I tried to reload the software but still the same message. Any clues on how to fix this?

Same problem here. I am using Endnote X5.

Endnote x6 seems to work under Mavericks (at least on my machine).

thanks Potterhu ! You saved me the job of reloading the software which I was going to do: I looked at sites which dealt with the Beta version of Maverick and the problem was known about as early as June 2013.  Like a lot of us I am ‘locked’ in to EndNote…

I have had the same experience with X5. Does X7 work with Mavericks? I may just upgrade.

Endnote X5 not working on Mavericks. This message appears when trying to open library: “Unable to load: /Applications/EndNote X5/EndNote X5.app/Contents/Resources/ENCore.bundle”.

Does anyone know the solution?

So far X7 is broken in Mavericks.  I primarily use Pages and it is defintely broken there.  I couldn’t get it to work in Word either.

The support guy was very helpful.  I am a bit surprised that Thomson Reuters have not tested the software against OSX Maverick until it was released to the rest of us.  Maybe they have some kind of dispute with Apple?  Anway they are testing and looking for debugs now.  The suggestion the support guy made, which actually is a good one was simply to use the trial version of X7 for 30 days; maybe by then the issues will be fixed.
To some extent I am being forced into the upgrade anyway due to my web link having expired.  I think Thomson Reuters need to think a bit about the feeling that its customers are being nickled and dimed.

Sorry about the stump speech!

Anyway the best solution seems to be the trial X7 which would give one a couple of weeks.

So, does the X7 free trial works on mavericks? Have you tested it yet? And if the trial works, why are X7 users complaining about the full version crash?

Free Trial X7 is what the support guy advised, he thought it worked on OS X Maverick.  I haven’t tried it myself yet and should have before I posted; apologies;  and going by other comments on this thread am going to wait. I do have EndNote on my Mac which is still on Mountain Lion and I will use that.  In future I will not update OS on Mac so quickly and unless I feel I really need to.  Mountain Lion was working fine.

It is of some concern that I bought X5 because it was ‘officially’ comaptible with OS Lion BUT it was not ‘officially’ compatible with Mountain Lion which came next.

Apologies, I passed on what the support guy suggested without trying it.  I won’t as it looks like there are issues with X7 as well.

It is slightly worrying that they don’t seem to have done any testing until release to the public.  Also that while X5 was, as they put it, ‘officially’ compatible with LION, it is NOT comaptible ‘officially’ with Mountain Lion.  that doesn’t really make sense and is a bit slack for software we actually pay quite a lot for over time?

is where the information is and where updates if and when they fix it will appear.

I confirm that X7 does not work in Pages 5.0 under Mavericks. I was able to activate Endnote and insert citations using the 2.0 plug-in but I cannot create a bibliography.

I had the same probelm with X4; fortunately, there is another excellent reference manager program that works perfectly with OS X Mavericks. The program is called Papers (by Mekentosj); it is very easy to use and has replaced EndNote as my major reference management program in the past several years.

By the way, Papers work not just with MS Word and Page but in any Mac application.

Cool, thanks for the tip. Looks far more attractive than endnote. This crash is a massive fail from Thomson Reuters. I think I’ll download papers.
