Does anyone know if Endnote X4 is compatible on a XP 64 machine?
I currently have Endnote X, which gives me a lot of problems due to compatibility.

Nope. Since no people replied, I decided to find out myself.
For some reason, the installation stopped and a message pops up, saying “Installation ended prematurely because of an error”.
Ok. Fine.
The recently released patch is compatible with 64 bit word, while X3 and X4 were compatible with windows xp64 bit operating system. See ths FAQ.
This may happen if you have any anti-virus or anti-spyware running when installing EndNote. Make sure those programs are disabled when trying to install EndNote.

If the problem continues, you would want to select the option to perform a “Custom install” instead of the “Typical install”. You will then be presented with a list of features to install. Set the Palm, Pocket PC, and Manuscript Templates to "This entire feature will be unavailable” and then continue the installation.
