"Endnote X5 Unable to Load"

I’ve been hospitalised for just under a year. Now that I’m back at my desk, I get the following Error Message from EndNote X5:


Unable to load: /Applications/EndNote X5/EndNote X5.app/Contents/Resources/ENCore.bundle


Please advise. How can I troubleshoot in this situation? I’ve already re-installed twice. Is this a question of updating? If so, is it at all possible to update without incurring extra cost? And - how would I update should this be what I need to do? Thanking you in advance for your help, I am,

Please note that EndNote X5 and earlier versions are not compatible with Mac 10.9. It was not designed or tested with this version of Mac OS. Changes made by Apple in their latest OS prevent EndNote X5 and earlier versions from working as designed. Due to the extent of the changes made in OS 10.9, EndNote X5 and earlier will not be able to be patched. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

All EndNote versions were released before the release of Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks). There are no known workarounds for this issue besides moving to a more recent version of EndNote or restoring your computer (using a Time Machine Backup for example) to a previous version of Mac OS X.

A patch EndNote X7.0.1 has been released by our Development team to address compatibility with Mavericks. EndNote X7.0.1 is designed to be compatible with Mavericks. Once you have upgraded to EndNote X7, you can still access the same library created using EndNote X4.

I had the same problem for my Endnote X5 when I migrated to Maveriks. So, I bought the upgrade version but this does not allow me to install it as it is asking me for a Serial number. I had Endnote X5 installed at my institution. What can I do now?, I asked the company I purchased online the upgrade version but they were of ‘little’ help.
