Searching an author or title with German Umlauts (ä ü ö) in ENDNOTE 2025 causes crashes of the program. Any help?
I just searched (Advanced Search, Author Contains) for Schröder on macOS Sequoia using EndNote 25, and my search matched “Schroder” without finding any umlauted names. EndNote did not crash. It is always useful to mention your EndNote version and build number, your OS version, your reference types and sources, specifically what type of search you performed, and maybe even computer architecture and processor.
Thank you for answering:
I just searched “Röllig” without any further indication (=simple search) on Endnote 25.1 (Build 19456) on a Windows System Windows 11 Home, Version 10.0.26200 on x64, 11th Gen Intel Core i5-11400 @2.60 Ghz and Endnote crashed after displaying the results (various reference types) when I clicked on one of the items per mouse. If I do the “Author” search, the program does not crash.
If I apply the same search in MacOS Tahoe 26.1, the results are displayed, but when I klick on one of the found entries and use the “copy” function, the program crashes some time after that action. In IOS I get a crash report but this is to long to post it here. I uploaded a screenshot of the first lines
.
That looks like a segmentation fault, essentially illegal memory access-related (the reason behind the push to move from C/C++ to Rust). No matter what you do, it should not happen. I would reach out directly to EndNote support.
Hi, thanks for bringing this up. I was able to reproduce it and reported this to the EndNote developers.
