In my register I have imported several books with Umlauts (ä, ö , ü) in the title. When I insert citations or footnotes in a Word text they appear with a blank after the Umlaut (ex:Kä mpf-Jansen. Ü ber ä sthetische Forschung Lektü re zu Texten.) Does anybody know how to fix this problem. Thanks

Hello,
my problem is exactly the same. In Endnote it is all shown correctly, but in the bibliography in word there are blanks.
How can I solve this?
Thanks

Check this thread which discusses fixes for these problems (importing or font display).
thx,
but this can´t solve my problem, because the characters are correctly imported in endnote!
It is just wrong after it turned into word !

John Easts reply in that thread addressed that too. (copied below)
Re: Charater problems when importing references online
In EndNote, click on Edit>Connection Files and open the connections manager.
Scroll down to the connection for U Aveiro, highlight it and click on the Edit button.
When the edit window opens, click on Connection Settings on the left hand side.
On the right-hand side, find the setting for “Text” and use the drop down menu to change it to Unicode (UTF-8).
Close the edit window and save the changes when prompted.
The connection file should import diacritics correctly now.
