How do you re-link word document to endnote file

A file was unlinked to Endnote so multiple people could edit the document. How can I re-link the file to sort out the references?

Do you mean the in-text citations were converted to ones having curly braces like this: {McWhorter, 1993 #895}

 

If so click Update Citations and Bibliography option to format the citations and generate the reference list (see attached image).
