How to prevent merging several references into one when inserting several references at the same place

I’m using endnote X4. So I would like to insert multiple references at the same place, and my reference style is ‘ACS’ . Then Endnote will merge these references into one with each reference numbered a, b, c, d… However, I want each reference to have it’s own reference number.

So I tried to modified the reference style by clicking Edit -> Output styles -> Editing “ACS”, in “numbering”, I deselect “use one number for references always cited together”. And I saved the new reference style and inserted reference again, but the problem still showed up.

Can anyone help me to solve this problem? Thanks.

If you modified the Style, it would have prompted to save with a new name. In order to see the changes in your document, make sure you have selected the new copy of the style where you have made your edits. Please see this article for more information:
