Quite a few people in my organization are using Rmarkdown and Quarto for the creation of documents, including peer-reviewed articles. Creating bibliographies and citing references is clunky because an intermediate bibtex file must be exported from Endnote. Please consider the creation of an R package for more seamless interaction with Endnote. My understanding is that open source Zotero already has this feature (as well as Word and Google Doc plugins), which seems like a strong selling point for data scientists.

I strongly agree. It is a pain to export a bibtex file from EndNote (and then to make any necessary changes to the bibtex file to get it to be compatible with Quarto/pandoc such as escaping unallowed characters etc.). EndNote is going to be left behind if it’s not able to keep up with Zotero, which is free.
