Linking X4 with WORD 2011 for mac

My Endnote X4 does not appear in the toolbar of my WORD 2011 (Imac OS 10.7.4). How do I tackle this so that I can cite while I write?

Hello, theoverheij:

EndNote X4 requires an update to make it compatible with Word 2011. To check to see if you have the update you need installed, click on the EndNote menu next to the Apple and choose About EndNote. If it says X4.0.2, you are fully updated. If it says only X4, you need to download and install the update.

You can find that update here:

Please download the file and install according to the instructions under Mac OS X.

If you still do not see the tools after updating, please click the EndNote menu again and choose Customizer. Be sure Cite While You Write is checked and click Next until the process completes.

X4 was already updated and I checked Cite while you write in the Customize screen, but still no Endnote submenu in Tools of Word, what am I doing wrong??

Let’s make sure your Word startup folder is correctly set. In Word, click the Word menu and go to Preferences>File Locations. Click once on Startup and then click Modify. Set the following path, which is the Microsoft default:

Applications: Microsoft Office 2011: Office: Startup: Word

When you’ve highlighted the Word folder, click Choose.

Then close and reopen Word.

Thanks, it is now working!

Hi, I have Endnote X4 for Mac and word 2011. I would like to update to the new version of X4 (so that cite while you write will be compatible with word 2011), but when I install the update I get a message saying that the installer could not find any copies of X4 that needed updating. As a result I do not have the cwyw files for word 2011. Any suggestions?

If you receive a message that EndNote X4 cannot be found to update, you can either re-install and run the update or download and install the complete EndNote X4.0.2 package. Please see this article for details:
