Mixing (author, year) with (year)

Endnote 20, latest MS word, Windows. I mostly use (author, year) format for my inline citations, e.g. “It was discovered that something has a property (author, year)”. However, for the sake of flow, some of sentences are formatted as “Author et al. (year) did something and discovered something” (formatted per my PI’s request). I can manually type out the latter since they don’t show up often, but then how do I add the actual reference to the bibliography (ordered alphabetically by author last name)? Or can/should I use two different citation styles in the same document?

There is an option to use the alternative Author (Year) when you edit the citation.

Right click on the citation in word, select Edit Citation - Then choose Display as Author (Year) and it should produce the output you described.

Yep that’s exactly what I’m looking for. Thank you!
