Modify field *order* in customized reference types in EndNote X2?

For a new database of archival texts I’m woring on, I’m wondering if it’s possible to modify the display order of fields in a custom-made reference type in EndNote X2. Note that I have already created the reference type, and it includes all the fields I need, but the order in which they are displayed is somewhat illogical.

I tried to change the order manually by editing the RefTypeDelta.xml and RefTypeTable.xml files (primitive, I know), but that didn’t seem to have any effect on the display once I re-opened the program.

If you mean you want to change the way they are listed in the open record view, no, the position is fixed based on the fields you used.  You can always change the way they are “output” in the preview pane, by creating and editing an output style template for that reference type though…

Yes, I did mean changing the order in the open record view, as this would significantly speed up data entry and browsing. Thanks for the quick reply, though!
