Newspaper article citation, APA style

Hi,  I’m using APA 6th edition as my style, and I’ve two problems with newspaper article citations in my EndNote x5: 1) EndNote places a comma after a newspaper article title, which shouldn’t be there. There should be a fullstop there. I tried putting a fullstop there, and then it just shows as “.,” 2) It doesn’t place the access date in the citation.

This is what it looks like now:

Lipka, S. (2009, February 11). Maharishi U. of Management settles lawsuit over student murdered in dining hall, The Chronicle of Higher Education. Retrieved from http://chronicle.com/article/Maharishi-U-of-Management/1522.

This is what it should look like:

Lipka, S. (2009, February 11). Maharishi U. of Management settles lawsuit over student murdered in dining hall. The Chronicle of Higher Education. Retrieved May 17, 2012 from http://chronicle.com/article/Maharishi-U-of-Management/1522.

I don’t know what to do about these. Please help. Thanks a lot!

Just modify the “Newspaper” bibliography template to remove the comma, insert a period.  Then there are assorted changes (see attached image). Have attached a modified APA 6th style which also includes the “Date Accessed” field (attached).

Also cautionary notes: 1) Retrieval dates are no longer needed in APA 6th  unless the source content is likely to change; 2) The Chronicle of Higher Ed is a subscription-based newspaper so unless the article is “free” (open access), clicking on the link may not yield the article -  as illustrated in your example the URL link yields “Page Not Found”.  Instead of the article link maybe use the main page’s URL instead (http://chronicle.com)
