We have recently tried to create a volume license for the newly patched version of Endnote, X4.0.1. After downloading the ‘ENX401Inst.msi’ file and downloading and unzipping the ‘ADMIN.BAT’ file, following the instructions on the Endnote support site, we ran the BAT file, making sure that both files were in the same location. In this case, both files were on the desktop. We receive the following error message:
ERROR: UNABLE TO LOCATE AN ENDNOTE MSI INSTALLER FILE IN THIS FOLDER
Press any key to continue…
I then did some experimenting and found that the BAT file had no trouble locating either the Endnote X3 MSI file or the un-patched Endnote X4 file - ‘ENX4Inst.msi’. I checked the properties for the files and found that they were all the same.
In order to get the installer for X4.0.1 to work, I renamed the file ‘ENX4Inst.msi’ (having already deleted the original file of that name from that location). I then ran the BAT file again and it recognised the new MSI file and created a volume license file ‘License.dat’ for Endnote X4.0.1.
I’m guessing that the people at Thomson have forgotten to add the filename ‘ENX401Inst.msi’ to the list of files handled by the BAT file.
I’m not sure if this is a major problem but it may be something that needs to be rectified. In the meantime, the above workaround will work.
