remove field codes problem, Word 2008, Endnote X2

Hi,

I am using Word 2008 (v. 12.2.1) (with OS X 10.5.8) and Endnote X2 (X2.0.1).

If I do a remove field codes command, which I have used successfully with Word 2004, my EndNote citations are successfully turned into plain text. However, every single carriage return character in the doc gets turned into an identical string of junk characters (digits, symbols, and, I think, Korean text of which there is none in my original text). These strings, which are all identical, are not editable so I can’t purge them out.

Any ideas?
