I would like to suggest improving EndNote’s file and attachment management by implementing true drag-and-drop functionality with direct move (cut) behavior.
Currently, managing attached PDFs and references feels rigid compared to modern file management systems (e.g., Windows Explorer, macOS Finder). Specifically:
-
Dragging attachments between groups does not behave like a true “move” operation.
-
There is no intuitive cut-and-paste workflow for attachments or records.
-
File handling inside the library does not provide the same flexibility as standard file managers.
For researchers who manage large libraries with hundreds or thousands of PDFs, efficient file manipulation is critical. A more modern interaction model could include:
-
Drag-and-drop with configurable behavior (copy vs move)
-
Explicit “Move to group” or “Relocate attachment” options
-
Clear visual feedback during drag operations
-
Optional synchronization between library structure and attachment folders
This would significantly improve usability and workflow efficiency, especially for users who handle large-scale literature databases.
