"Word could not load this add-in program" Tried everything I could!

Hi there,

This has been happening both with Endnote Online and X7. I’m using Word 2011 on a 2010 MacBook.

I have tried the following on both

“Perferences” under the Word pulldown menu and choose “File Locations.” Make sure this points to Macintosh HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 2008: Office: Startup:Word."

and this

  1. Close Word and EndNote.
  2. Open your hard drive and go to the following folder:
EndNote X7: Applications: EndNote X7: Cite While You Write
EndNote X6: Applications: EndNote X6: Cite While You Write
EndNote X5: Applications: EndNote X5: Cite While You Write
EndNote X4: Applications: EndNote X4: Cite While You Write
Copy the file “EndNote CWYW Word 2011.bundle” by highlighting the file and going to “Edit > Copy.”
  3. Go to the folder Applications:Microsoft Office 2011:Office:Startup:Word and paste the file, “Edit Paste.”
Note: In non-English versions of Word, the folder named “Startup” may be called “Start” or be in the localized language of Word.
  4. Start Word, go to “Word > Preferences” and click on “File Locations.”
  5. If the Startup folder is not set, highlight “Startup” and click on “Modify”. Select the folder Applications:Microsoft Office 2011:Office:Startup:Word and click “Choose.”
  6. Click “OK” and close Word.
  7. Start EndNote and then start Word.

Even after, when I view the templates and add-ins menu in Word, Endnote CWYW Word 2011.bundle is unchecked and I cant check it wihtout recieving the error message "Word could not load this add-in program. (Endnote CWYW Word 2011.bundle).

Any help wold be appreciated, thanks!

Hi jsuv92,

I’m having the same problem after upgrading to word 2011.  I’ve done the steps recommended (ie copying bundle) but is still doesn’t work.  Have you managed to find a workaround?

Hi, not sure if this helps, but everytime I have had problems with Endnote and Word (Mac) its because visual basic wasn’t installed during the MS office installation.  This usually also results in a “could not fire event” problem also when quiting word.

The only fix thats ever worked for me is to re-instal Mac office and check that the VBA box is ticked during the installation.

Cheers

Hi, I had the same problem since I upgrated to version X7… I am using word 2010 on a windows though.

I found this(explains for mac and windows), it basically says the same steps as you say, but theres an extra step in case it doen’t show like in your case.

I hope it helps.

for me it did!! I have my endnote toolbar again! ouf :smiley_cat:
