When will Endnote be compatible with Word 16.xx?
This is a huge frustration. I’ve had to do all sorts of hacks to keep running Word 15.xx on my mac. Considering how many academics use macs this has to be affecting thousands of people around the world.
Some effort to resolve this quickly would be appreciated.

If you have EndNote X8 then with the latest update which came out 1/23 you can use EndNote X8 with Word 2016 16.XX

I have Word for mac 2011 installed on my machine, and I just updated endnote X7.8. Since that moment, I cannot update citation and bibliograph in my Word document, and it countinuosly appears the message “a COM exception has occured”. On top of this, the references that I previously inserted, have been deleted from my document, and I am now afraid of opening any other Word document. I already tried to close both programs and restart the computer, it did’n eork. I don’t have any Mendeley desktop installed.
Can you please advice on how to solve this issue? It is becomnig quite frustrating given all the time that I’ve been wasting, worsened by the fact that the already inserted citations are being deleted.

That’s not true. I have EndNote X8 on Windows 16 v 16.0.9020.2253 and every time I open Word I have to re-do the Add-In. It’s most frustrating.

Hi. It works eventually. Every time I open Word 2016 (windows version), I have to re-do the add-in. It doesn’t hold the setting.

maybe you don’t have the appropriate “rights” to make the change?
Go to the following location folder based on your Word program and right click on “WINWORD.exe” and select “Run as Administrator.”
Word 2016: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16\
For Office 365 (Word 2016), the folder will be: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\
Word 2013: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\
Word 2010: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\
Word 2007: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\
Note: If Microsoft Office is not listed under “Program Files (x86),” look under just “Program Files.”
Go to the File Menu and choose “Options.”
Select “Add-Ins” from the list at the left.
At the bottom of the Add-Ins page, there is a “Manage:” dropdown list. Leave this on “COM Add-ins” and select Go.
On the COM Add-Ins page, choose EndNote and select Remove
On the COM Add-Ins page, choose “Add” button.
Browse to the following location and select the “EndNote CWYW.dll” file:
EndNote X8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ResearchSoft\Cwyw\18\
EndNote X7: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ResearchSoft\Cwyw\17\
Note: If you have common files installed in a different location, you would need to find this CWYW folder in that other location.
Once you have Selected the “EndNote CWYW.dll” file, choose OK and OK again to close the COM Add-ins screen. The EndNote tools should now be in Word.
You can then reopen Word your normally way to see if the tab appears automatically.
