The toolbar for CWYW will not load into Word 2010 after applying all of the fixes suggested as well as uninstalling and reinstalling the new X4. This is a waste of a program if I cannot get it to work with Word. I’ve been using Endnote for 8 years and am very disappointed and frustrated with this.
Did you check Word 2010’s “add-ins”? The CWYW toolbar may not be displayed in Word 2010 because the add-in was not activated in Word.
1. Go to the Word 2010 toolbar, click FILE, OPTIONS (located under “Help”, then ADD-INS.
-
View the Add-in’s “Inactive Application Add-ins” section for the “EndNote Cite While You Write” add-in file.
-
Click to highlight the “EndNote Cite While You Write” add-in file, then at the bottom of the screen where it says “Manage”, confirm that “COM Add-Ins” is listed then click the GO button, then click OK.
-
Close Word Options window and return to the Word document. If the EndNote toolbar does not appear, close Word then reopen the program.
I was oh-so hopeful this was the fix, but alas - I have no disabled actions under options: add-ins. The endnote file is not showing up in Word 2010.
Thanks, though.
I had the same problem with X4 and Office 2010 but the add-in was displayed in the inactive section. Suggest you contact (phone/email) tech support and hope your problem will be resolved soon:
Thanks - our IT guy here figured it out for me. I had already contacted endnote support but never heard back from them.
Thanks for your help.
How did he do it? I have the same problem and could not find ENdNote in Add-ins. Thanks
May you Isupport give the hints.
I did everything, and nothing., particularly I activate the servt32 “cwyw .dll”
that is a nightmare
Hi, I’m having similar problem.
I’ve had to re-install everything on my computer after going to Windows 7 (still using Word 2007).
I’m using Endnote X.0.2 and have updated all patches.
Everything has gone fine except that the CWYW tab is missing and as above, it is not listed as a ‘disabled’ add-in in the file, options section of Word.
I’ve followed all the advice I can find in FAQ CWYW 1 and 45 but with no luck. Can anyone advise me how to get the CWYW tab back?
Many thanks
If you’ve tried the usual resolutions (see Article #:98004), here’s one more to consider before contacting Tech Support. Were you running EndNote X2 on an earlier version of Windows, without problems, before upgrading to Windows 7? If so, you could try “rolling-back” the compatibility setting for your EndNote program to an earlier version of Windows:
- If you have an EndNote shortcut icon on the desktop, place your cursor on the icon, right-click and from the submenu select “Properties”. In the Properties dialog box , click the “Compatibiity” tab and select the “Run this program in compatibility mode for” box. Select the Windows version (you might start with Vista first.). Click the OK button and exit. Restart your computer.
or
- If you access EndNote via the “All Programs” list, locate the program then right-click to obtain the submenu. Click “Properties”. In the Properties dialog box , click the “Compatibiity” tab and select the “Run this program in compatibility mode for” box. Select the Windows version (you might start with Vista first.). Click the OK button and exit. Restart your computer.
…and of course, there’s always Tech Support.
Thanks for the reply. I tried both of these and neither worked. i fished around on the web a little more and came across this page which provided the solution: http://www.adeptscience.co.uk/kb/relatedarticle.php?unid=f260f33872195c6f802572d5005600d2 In short, Windows 7 files things differently and two files from the Endnote set-up had to be copied manually into the word start up folder. It appears to be working just like it used to now. :smileyvery-happy:
