Author, Editor and Series Title

Hello,

I am a new user of EndNote and I’m sorry if I’ve missed the answer to my query elsewhere. I would like to include both an author and editor in my citation. I have seen the advice to use the Series Editor field in the Book reference type; this is fine except when I would also like the Series Title to be included. If I put the book editor in the Series Editor field and complete the Series Title field, the editor appears as the Series Editor.

I am using Turabian Bibliography style. Here is an example of a citation I would like to be able to do: Shakespeare, William. Hamlet, ed. Harold Jenkins. The Arden Shakespeare, Second Series. London: Methuen, 1982.

Instead this appears as:  Shakespeare, William. Hamlet. The Arden Shakespeare, Second Series, ed. Harold Jenkins. London: Methuen, 1982.

Is it simply a case of switching the position of Series Title and Series Editor in the style template, if this is possible? Or is there a better solution?

Thank you for your help.

that is exactly what you would want to do, as long as that works for all your books with series editors.

Editing a style can seem scary, but it is pretty easy.  Edit> edit Output Style> edit “Turabian”.  Save as a new style (file>save as) and then just pay careful attention to what puctuation goes with what and use the link adjacent and separation markers, liberally.  Look at the reference in the preview tab, to see that the punctuation is correct for that reference and few others of that reference type and tweak it if it isn’t right.

This is another long-standing problem for EndNote users in the humanities.

One possible approach is to use the “Ancient Text” reference type in EndNote. This was developed for use in conjunction with the Society of Biblical Literature style, but I think it should work OK for any edited text. You would use the “Publication Title” field for the Series Title.

Of course, you would have to set up new templates for this reference type in the Turabian style. You could then copy and paste the content of the Book template into the Ancient Text template, and make a few changes.

Thank you both very much for your quick and helpful responses.
