citations automatically reverting to uneditable forms

I’m using X4 on Libre Writer (windows 7) and every time I close out of a document and re-open it, the citations all become uneditable.  Any ideas?

Do let us know what you find out.  I believe that the product was developed to work with OpenOffice, but may not have been thouroughly tested with LibreOffice.  and then only on the PC, not necessarily on other platforms.
