Default layout settings EN 21.5

Endnote used to remenber column widths, if these were adjusted by me. Now it reverts to its own defaults when I restart Endnote or open a new tab. With the sideframe open the title column is shriked so it only shows the first letter.

Agreed. They need to fix this!

But they are not going to do it in V21.
I keep seeing people asking for things that “used to be in Endnote”
I won’t be upgrading my Endnote V21. If I to move, it will be to something else.

Comparing EndNote 25 with 21, I see no improvements in 25. Many problems are worse and there are only new regressions. I do not find their AI integration and summaries helpful, and I wish they could be turned off. The AI integration seems to mainly serve their data collection purposes at our expense rather than help us.

I have a feeling they are doing the minimum to claim “new features” to get the institutes to shell out for an up(?)grade. This is just a cash cow and I think when the big institutes stop their automatic upgrading then End Note will go.

I am staying on V21 and if the current situation continues I will move to something else if I need change. I already have one in mind.

Indeed. X9 was the last version that was an improvement. It has only been a steady attrition, with users eventually getting used to the demise since.

From the Wikipedia page on Endnote “With the release of version 4.0 in c. 2000, EndNote attained most of its current functionality”
They seem to have been just tinkering with it for the last 25 years and looking at the Forum, users seem to think each new version has as many steps backwards ad forwards.
Now my company no longer pays for the updates. (we could set them against cooperation tax) I won’t be upgrading from V21.
