EndNote to Ndxcards

I click export in EndNote, then it creates a txt file, but when I try to import it into ndxcards it says it’s not in refer format. How do I make it that?

You need to define the correct output style. 

In earlier versions of Endnote, you  selected this the in the library view, but Endnote X2 (and possibly X1), you need to make sure that the drop down at the bottom of the export menu window is set to Refer Export.
