EndNote X3 and Windows 7: message "could not initialize database support": Urgent!

Dear colleagues

Since I’m using Windows 7 I can not open any library of EndNote (X3). When trying to open it apears the following message: “could not initialize database support” and it doesn’t open.

Tomorrow I must give a class on how to use EndNote, but if it is not working…

Can anybody help me please?

[I saw that there are others complaining on the same problem, but couldn’t find any solution in the forum]

Thank you,

In such a limited time, user forum isn’t the best place for solution…but did you try changing UAC control, or even run the program using XP compatible mode? Win 7 is much similar to Vista, which had some problems with the location of the library and UAC privilege setups. Look for “database support” error in this forum, and you should hit some problem reports with Win Vista and X2.

And…the best way is to call tech support for immediate help, and please post the solution here if you ever solve it with them.

Good luck!

Thank you for your suggestions.

I changed the UAC control (found the indications here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/30/how-to-disable-and-turn-off-uac-in-windows-7/), tested my database and even created a knew one. All is working.

Thank you,

Glad you made it to work. The first thing I did after I installed my Win Vista 64bit was to change the UAC setup. There should be more elaborate error messages like “UAC has blocked to initialize database”, instead of “Endnote error”. Generic error message doesn’t help anything to troubleshoot. This is true not only with Endnote, but with other software as well.

“Could not initialize database support” can also be cause if a user copies the endnote.exe file to their desktop and opens the program from there.
