Since I started using sync in EndNote X7, I notice that the process often takes a very long time and/or seems to freeze. At the bottom of the X7 desktop window is the message, “Retrieving account info…” next to an empty progress bar, and it’ll stay that way for hours. Also the sync icon is deactivated and when I try to close the software I’m told that sync is still in progress and asked if I’m sure that I want to close. Is the software not able to access Endnote web? Syncing has been successful in the past and I have the correct EndNote web login info entered in X7.
Same problem here. EndNote x7.0.1 (Bld 7212). If I select “Close Now” on the dialog box, Endnote utilises 100% of a single CPU core, and sits there forever.
I also have severe problems after upgrading from X5 to X7. Everything is considerably slower, and X7 is crashing on a regular basis. I am using a 30.000+ reference database, about 80% of the entries have pdf attachments. Now, it looks like X7 killed this database.
My solution: I am going to downgrade to X5 again. This is a shame!
We have identified a handful of Sync issues (thanks to input from many of you) with EndNote X7 that we are currently fixing. We have free update patches in the works for both Windows and Macintosh that will be ready very soon - in the next few weeks.
Problem with EndNote 7 (MAC OS X 10.9) still not fixed. Same problem as in earlier posts going back to July. Seems to hang for hours, uses excessive resources. Really disappointing. Last post that suggested fix in a few weeks (back in October) has not been addressed. A major problem…
My Endnote X7.0.1 freezes every time on OS 10.9.1 at retrieving references point. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of times with no success. Very frustrating as I am trying to work on two different computers so need to sync. What can I do to stop this happening?
I recently updated to Endnote X7.1 and began to have the problem since then. I am using windows 8.1 and I did not have the problem when I used Endnote X7.01… I cannot figure out what is wrong.
I’m using lastest EndNote x7.1 (bld7705) and still seing syncing issued when inserting new references. I open up task manager and I dont see it limited by CPU process, RAM utilization and hardrive access. It really slows down my work and I even reboot my computer (win 8.1 x64) but it didnt helped.
I’m not sure if EndNote has limit number of working references and I’m seeing this when I hit 140++ counts. Any patch for this

I have been struggling with the same problem lately. I
n the past I used dropbox for synchronization. As suggested, I tried to switch to synchronization through Endnote X7.2 (Macintosh).
But when I tried,it always hang up during synch at ‘Sending updates’ phase… After I tried with a small library of 250 references, it worked. After copying another 1000 refereneces to the same library, it got to the end of it, the bar showing progress seems complete, but stayed like that for hours. So the problem seems to be related, at lest partially, to the size of the library. I think I will have to go back to using dropbox for synchronization across different computers, until the problem has been solved.
With my large library, it took about 4 - 5 times before the whole thing got uploaded/synced. I think it was a “time-out” issue - whether imposed by my institution or the Cloud, I don’t know.
I’ve been trying to sync for the first time over the past few days. Today it’s been over 5 hours and still not sure if anything is happening. A “Retrieving References” status bar hasn’t budged but every couple seconds a window appears and disappears that I think says “Indexing PDF”. Sync status says “there are changes that need to be sent and received”.
I only have ~500 references in this library. How long should I expect the sync to take? How do I tell if it’s even working after 5 hours?
I have an iMac and MacBook. Both running latest software (Yosemite 10.10.2) and both with latest versions of EndNote 7.2.1. I am trying to sync the libraries with the online version. So far I have got the laptop syncing fine. The desktop doesn’t sync however. It says error message 400 and won’t get past the authorisation stage. The account details are correct (I have tried entering in the wrong account details and it recognises this). I have re-installed the software, copied the library from my laptop onto a USB stick and put it on my iMac and directed EndNote to this library. I have checked that the libraries are correct under preferences/sync.
The library itself works absolutely fine with Word etc but when I go to sync it just waits 10 minutes then comes up with an error message.
