field codes

Hi

I recently face a problem. whenever i opened a worddocument all of the field codes can be seen and i have to ‘select all’ and ‘toggle field codes’.

I solved the problem by Unchecking the item “Show field codes”

Know there is the same problem with new refrence i put in the paper and the old one are correct.

Do you know how i canstop this from happening?

Can you paste in what you are seeing?  Are you seeing field codes in that one ref, or are you seeing the temporary endnote citation?  What I always try to is to make a copy and unformat and reformat the references, and make sure CWYW is engaged in the third tab of the reformat menu.  See if that helps.

If field codes, - Alt+F9, maybe try it twice?

when I add a reference, I see the code as below;

" part of the world [1]. {Abd-Elsalam, 2003 #349}"

even in a new document the second reference face this problem

Those aren’t field codes.  They are Endnote’s “temporary citations”.  I suspect that you have CWYW disabled on that manuscript and perhaps, if it happens in a new document, Cite While You Write (CWYW) off for new documents too.

On an existing document, try manually reformating the document, and when you are in the formating dialogue,  go to the third tab (called “Instant formatting” in X3) and “Turn On” or “enable”.

To make sure that the CWYW preferences are set to have it enabled for new documents, try Alt+9 – and make sure the correct option is selected there.

Incidentally,

Field codes would look more like this:

{ADDIN EN.CITE <EndNote><Cite><Author>Aasland</Author><Year>  …

and there also happens (in EndnoteX3) to be an option to fix this in the same CWYW preferences dialogue box. Otherwise fix this with the Alt+F9 option in word.

I am using Endnote 9

I checked tools/CWYW/CWYW preference . all seems ok. however shortcut alt+9 doesnt work

when i insert the 1st referece. all is ok nut for the next references the temp citation will appear and remain with the below message in end note. " Service Error: Generic"

The Alt+9 needs to be invoked in word, not in endnote, but other way to get to them is in Word  : tools>endnote>Cite While You Write preferences.  For the service error, I would contact tech support, but there is this FAQ:

EndNote’s support site has an FAQ about the “Service Error: Generic” message.  Apparently it indicates an internal EndNote error which could result from a number of things.  The FAQ lists various steps you can try to correct the problem - BUT per the FAQ, these steps may not resolve the issue.
