How to remove the coauthor in a citation

Hello,

I’m new to endnote an having some troubles with the basics. Im using word 2007 , endnote X7 on an windows 7 OS.

When I import a citation into word it is displayed as (Laberg, Andreassen et al. 1998) - always citing the main and the 1st coauthor. How do I cite the main Author only? In other words how do I remove   Andreassen in the citation example?

Thanks in advance

If you want only the first author to be listed (in the case of 3 or more authors such as Laberg, Andreassen et al. 1998) you’ll need to reduce the number of authors in the Author Lists section of your output style.

1. Go to the EndNote toolbar, select Edit > Output Styles > Edit [name of your output style.

2. (Refer to attached image.) Click “Author Lists” then change the “If …or more authors…” to: 1.

3. Close the output style – the changes will be saved as a new output style with “Copy” added to the filename. Adjust MS Word and EndNote to use the new output style.
