Issue importing file

Hi,
I am having issues with importing a file (PDF of a paper) into EndNote. After importing the file, it leaves multiple references files (5) with random symbols for the title and author. Also, it saves the reference type as ‘book’. Even after deleting all of the references made here, it still gives me the same output. Is there anything else I can do to fix this?
Thank you!

Unfortunately Endnote tries to read the metadata in the PDF, and if that metadata is not correctly defined, the record created will be wrong. I don’t know what you mean by “after deleting all of the references made here, it still gives me the same output.” Can you get the record from the publisher site or an online database or google scholar? Then just drag and drop the PDF “onto” the record afterwards, to attach it.

Hello Leanne,
Thanks for your comment. I was able to get the record from PubMed and it imported correctly! Thanks for your help.

Hello, I have been using EndNote 21.5 (Bld 18513) since a year without issue, but a week ago, I started experiencing the exact same issue as mentioned. This happens with all my references, which means I cannot import pdf files anylonger. I have to go to Google scholar, click on “cite”, and add the pdf manually. Is anyone having a solution for this issue ? This would be helpful to save some time. Many thanks, Marie

NB: please note that when I open the pdfs in Acrobat Reader, they have metadata

Hello,

I just solved the issue doing this :

Go to File > Import > File
Select your PDF
In the dialog:
Import Option → set to PDF

Thanks !

Regards,

Marie
