Lost PubMed URL when importing from PubMed (using filter)

Hi all!

When importing from PubMed to EndNote using the PubMed filter a url link to the reference in PubMed is no longer supplied (I haven’t noticed this, but another librarian think that this has happened after the summer).

When importing from PubMed directly from EndNote (using the connection file), a link is generated using the PMID number an adding the rest of the url (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/)::slight_smile:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21040773

I can not find how this is programmed into the connection file (maybe it is not done there?). I can not find any place in the filter programming where it is possible to achive the same (it is not allowed to include text before tag content in the template).

I think this topic has been mentioned in the forum previously (without any solution), but I’m glad if anyone can share any insight into solving this problem now.

Best wishes

Hi,

that reflects exactly my problem! Any suggestions?

@parabuthus: did you find a solution?

Hi!

leeho and I had email contact outside the Forum, but I thought I should mention a possible workaround this problem if it is important to have a PubMed URL in imported PubMed references. This is an old Forum post, but it seems that this problem is still valid for the current PubMed import filter.

Step 1:
Change PubMed filter so that PMID data (PubMed ID number) is imported into the URL field (in addition to the Accession number field),

Step 2:
Do an import from PubMed and highlight all imported references immediately after the import.

Tools → Change and Move Fields → Select field “URL”, Choose “Insert before field’s text”, Insert the following text in text field: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/ and make sure the box “Include space after the new next” are NOT ticked (no V) → OK.

Click OK to the two messages that follows.

You will now have a workable PubMed URL for all the imported references. At least it works in my tests.

Best wishes
