I am using X2 in word 2007 i have sleceted author date style the referncing in the text is strange it shows the first name of the two authors and the et al. can anyone help.

That is how it is designed “out of the box”. I would suggest you use a different style, if that isn’t what you want? There are certainly a plethora of choices! My personal favorite is “Cell”, which is only the first author showing, unless there are only two authors.
