I noticed the beta test requests (for both RM and EndNote), and am coming from the perspective of a long time (more than 15 year) user of EndNote. I’d like to switch to an ISIResearchsoft product that is Word Perfect compatible, but apparently WordPerfect has been dropped from the approved list of word processors for RM.
Please don’t tell me about “format paper/scan to RTF” options - I’m not particularly interested in that. I’ve been using it, and it’s definitely not the same.
My question is simple: what should WP users do in terms of bibliography programs?
I, too, am a Wordperfect user and an Endnote user. I’ve been using WP since 5.1 for DOS and have X3 plannnig to upgrade to X4. I’ve been demoing RM 11 and have been generally impressed. It is certainly an improvement compared to anything offered to the WP communmity since Endnote 7. I purchased Endnote 6 and then an upgrade to Endnote 7 and was awaiting the release of the promised Addin for EN8 so I could upgrade. As it is, I’ve not spent any more money with ISI because of the lack of support for WP. I’m planning to switch to RM12 when it comes out, but if it doesn’t support WP at least as well as RM 11 then it is going to be yet another “no sale” just like EN8, 9, X, and X1. (Let’s see, how much money have I NOT spent on ISI software upgrades???) Citation 9 is a less appealing alternative but it is an alternative. WP is still used by biblical scholars and Endnote was popular among them until the compatibility issues came up. Scan Document sucks, to put it mildly. I’ll switch bibliography programs, but I’m not switching word processors.
FYI, as far as WordPerfect support in RefMan 12 goes, we plan for it to have the same support that RefMan 11.0.1 has. There should be no loss in WP functionality, we’ll likely have more details closer to/at release. Hope this info helps!
I just ordered several copies of RM12 for use with WPX3 but was told by sales, (Jeremy McGlaughlan, who was very helpful) that it is not compatible with WPX3 so I ended up changing my order to RM11.
I have not yet installed RM11 and have come across this forum which would appear to contradict this information. Can anyone out there confirm definitively whether or not RM12 is compatible with WPX3? (Like others, I’ve used WP since 1990 and will slit my wrists before using Word).
According to the website, it does. BUT it doesn’t seem to have support for WPX4. I’ve installed the Demo for X3 and it works until I want to generate a bibliography. At that point it crashes. I’m trying to figure it out with tech support now.
Are the compatibility problems with WPX4 and WPX5 and RefMan 12 fixed now?
Happy with the way WPX3 and RefMan 11 work together but not with the way Word 2007/RM11 work. Makes joint working on scientific papers quote difficult.
There seems to be an unwillingness to fix the WP issue.
What I have done for Refman 11 is to go to programfiles/refman11/CWYW. There are two files there starting WP. Copy these and rename them to “rm11wp15.dll” and “rm11wp15.wpt”
Then run refmanconfig.exe
Everything in WPOX5 now works except for generating the bibliography. I have left WPOX3 installed for this(it’s the last version that works).
I want to upgrade to RM12, but not until they fix this issue…

I’ve found it to work well, but I also haven’t used it as extensively as others. The integration is closer to what you’re accustomed to with earlier versions of RM and Endnote.
If anyone from T-R is out there, I think the WordPerfect product team would like to know - I have a source who tells me they’re interested in sorting this issue out…
