Unformatted citations - no reference number?

I am wondering if I am doing something wrong/if it is an issue that when inserting my references in to my word doc as unformatted citations, instead of the usual format of {Author, Date, #ref number} they are appearing as {Author, Date, Article Title}? Just wondering why this is happening and if I need to change anything as I haven’t come across this before. I’m using EndNote Online.

EndNote online will insert citations in the format of Author, Year Title.

EndNote desktop will insert citations in the format of Author, Year Record Number.

If you want to have the citations unformat as Author, Year Record Number or insert as Author, Year Record Number you have to use EndNote Desktop in Word.
