Endnote insert Author, Year instead of Number

I am using Word 2010 and Endnote X5. When I insert a reference, in my typing, Endnote added the citation with the form of {Author, Year, #number} intead of Bibliography Number. I have checked the output style and the Template of citation was [Bibliography number] at the row of Citation (At row of  Citation - Author (year), it was “Author [Bibliography Number]”). I insert the citation by clicking the Insert citation button in Endnote program, or click the Insert citation button in Endnote X5 tab in Word, choose the reference and just click Insert. But the author style was added instead of number. Could you tell me how to solve my problem. Thank you very much.

What you are seeing are temporary citations. Can you turn on instant formatting to check if that resolves this issue. Please see link below for steps:

Thank you for your reply. I have checked for the Instant formatting and it is already turned on. But the Bibliography Number was not shown. Please give me more advice.

I am sorry my previous suggestion did not help.

Can you open a new document and see if you are able to insert citations correctly. If you get temporary citations in the new document as well, please reach out to Technical Support team using link http://endnote.com/support/contact-support. They should be able to help in fixing this.

If citations are inserted correctly in the new document, then the issue in your current document could be due to damaged field codes. You can follow the steps listed in http://endnote.com/kb/81143 to clean the field codes. Please ensure that you make a backup of your current document.

If you are having difficulties in performing the steps listed in the link above, you can reach out to Technical Support team for assistance.

Thank you for your reply. I have tested in a new document and the same problem occured. I will ask the Support team for help. Thank you again!

Did you try clicking on the “Update Citations and Bibliography” on the endnote ribbon?

I had the same problem.

This has something to do with the citation configuration. I encountered this problem after the endnote was dead and I reastarted that.

Everything went back to normal after I closed all programs and restarted the system.
