Using SharePoint to share a library

Is there a simple doc somewhere explaining how to use sharepoint with Endnote? I have a central database of references used for our research that want to share between members of the lab. The idea would be to check out library for adding references or modifying a reference when generating a paper or article, then check back in so we all have access to the modifications instead of having multiple versions of the same thing all over. I can not seem to get SharePoint and Endnote to play nice so can download or checkout the library I have created, nor can I find an explanation why. Some help or just direction would be greatly appreciated.
