Hello -
I am experiencing a similar problem to others on this forum. If the title didn’t sum it up - I am experiencing very slow (10+second) updates during the “collecting in-text citations → updating bibliography… etc.” of the Instant Formatting feature during the Format Bibliography command. Every time I change, update, or remove citations, even to add page numbers, it costs me 10+ seconds.
-
My document is small, less than 50 pages. There are approximately 150 citations. However, the Endnote library I am working from contains nearly 500 records.
-
The problem appears to be cumulative. In a blank document, citations update nearly immediately. As the document length increases, the updating time increases. However, when the instant formatting is turned off, the unformatted citations appear nearly instantly.

I have tried unformatting field codes, and copy/pasting into a new document. The problem persists.

I am using the most recent downloadable evaluation copy of X4.0.2. (Downloaded February 20, 2011) I am also using the most recent update of Word for Mac 2011. I am running a MacBook Pro i5 OSX 10.6 w 4G of ram which can run World of Warcraft, Photoshop, an iTunes movie and a big fat Excel spreadsheet simultaneously w/o batting an eye. I know Word 2011 is a bloat-fest, but slowdowns shouldn’t be happening on this machine with only Word and X4 running.

I have $35 million dollars in small, unmarked bills and I will give it all to you if you can help me resolve this issue.

I have installed X4 and X2 in the same Application folders. X2 has not been uninstalled. Could there be conflicts here?
Please let me know any additional information you might need to address this bug, and I will be happy to provide. Please hurry. I’m running out of hair to pull out.
