Attention X7 Mac and Microsoft Office Insiders: Word version 15.25.0 has been released

On Friday, July 1st, Microsoft released version 15.25.0 of Office 2016 to their Mac Insider Fast channel.

The Office Insider program is a new Microsoft initiative to provide early access to the latest product builds to Office customers on all platforms. Learn more here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3136076

Version 15.25.0 of Word 2016 is fully 64-bit (more information here: https://dev.office.com/mac-office-64-bit-transition).

EndNote X7 Mac users who upgrade to version 15.25.0 of Word 2016 will find that this release impacts the Cite While You Write plug in, resulting in a Word dialog that reads:

Word was unable to load an add-in

Your add-in isn’t compatible with this version of Word. Please contact the add-in provider for an update. (EndNote CWYW Word 2016.bundle)

The EndNote team has been working on an X7.6 update for Mac that will be fully compatible with this 64-bit version of MS Word 2016.  But, for Office Insiders impacted right now, we have a 64-bit X7 Mac Cite While You Write beta plug in available – and you can go to http://endnote.com/betasignup to get it.

So, download our beta and give us your feedback! We will incorporate fixes for the bugs you identify and be sure to include them in the official X7.6 release.

Thanks!
Meredith M.

good work my bro :)

There have been additional Word 2016 releases that impact the functionality of the EndNote Cite While You Write (CWYW) plug in, resulting in a Word dialog that reads:

Word was unable to load an add-in

Your add-in isn’t compatible with this version of Word. Please contact the add-in provider for an update. (EndNote CWYW Word 2016.bundle)

So, for users who are on any of the following, 64 bit versions of Word 2016 (Menu, Word → About Word):
- Version 15.25 (160707) – 64-bit

  • Version 15.25 (160630) – 64-bit

  • Version 15.24 (160707) – 64-bit

and get the above error message and do not see the CWYW tools, please go to http://endnote.com/betasignup to get your hands on a compatible CWYW beta build.

Thank you for this important informaton.

No problem, @ryanbranson

Microsoft released two new Word 2016 builds to Insiders that require the 64 bit version of the CWYW tools for EndNote X7 Mac. These are:

- Version 15.25 (160713) – 64-bit
- Version 15.25 (160719) – 64-bit

If you are on either of these, please go to http://endnote.com/betasignup to get your hands on a compatible CWYW beta build.

Actually, the general release 15.24.0 (160709) is also out as of July 12, and breaks CWYW. This is not an Office Insider release, it’s a general public update.

If you can switch back to the July 12, 2016 Microsoft 15.24.0 general update, then CWYW should work again. I turned off my Office Insider setting and loaded that update when it became available, and that fixed the problem.

I’ve tried to use CWYW with Word 2016 15.24 and Endnote X7.5.3 and it doesn’t work - I get the error ID- 600. Tried the beta version of 7.6 and got the same error message. The Endnote X7 toolbar appears in Word but importing citations doesn’t work.

Actually it appears to work now after a restart.

Great news, @arunabha ! Let us know if you have any other issues.

Another 64 bit only Word 2016 release was made to Microsoft Insiders that will require the CWYW beta. The version and build number is:

- Version 15.25 (160726)

If you are on this version of Word 2016 (Menu, Word → About Word) and don’t see the CWYW tools, please go to http://endnote.com/betasignup to download our latest CWYW beta.

Thankyou so much for this amazing info

When can we expect and official patch release ? Looking at the beta program warnings with the NDA that goes with it it’s a little scary to consider using it… I still don’t understand why these issues arise when changes to Word versions are presented in advance to developpers and made available months in advance. Why can’t you guys follow the upgrade path of Word. CWYW for Word is an essential feature of the product and affects the productivity and usability of the software.

I don’t know the complexities of going from 32 bits to 64 bits programming, but since Thomson is not a two man operation,  put the resssources and just do it and on time. I lost faith in you guys a while back through the years after numerous debacles with changes in versions for Word or Mac OS. At what point will I consider another platform?  I am getting there. Should I still recommand to my students Endnote ?

Get that patch out ASAP please.

Try the new
