Bibliography sort order (Endnote X6)

I have a small problem with my bibliography format and can’t figure out how to correct it!

I need my bibliography ordered by author surname, unless there is no author. If there’s no author, then it needs to go by title, but following the same alphabetical ordering as the surnames - so, for example, an anonymous article called ‘Any Questions’ would come after a book by someone called Clifford Allen. Every method I’ve tried seems to organise the anonymous items separately first, and then list everything else by author!

Many thanks.

Hello Janet,

EndNote X6 does not have that sorting option.

As a workaround you could wait until all references are in your bibliography then you would use the command Convert to Plain Text in Word.

The bibliography would no longer be connected to EndNote and you could manually move the references with no authors into the places you want them.

NOTE: Once you remove the field codes this removes the link between EndNote and Word, and adding or removing any citations after removing the field codes will not update your bibliography.

Please see the following KB article that has those steps.
