Cite while you write: page rangesd

Hi,

I’m trying to figure out how to cite page ranges properly. I’ve changed the default settings to show as 16-17 but I’m not quite sure how I’m meant to enter this in cite while you write.

I’ve tried entering the pages that I’m citing as a sort of summary e.g. 16, 17, 18 with the hope that this would turn into 16-18 but it just enters as 16,17, 18.

Is the only way to do it to enter the page ranges manually e.g. 16-18?

Many thanks!

Nathalie

Another question:

When citing a source in the footnote, the subsequent citations which follow directly are cited as ‘Ibid’, which is exactly what I want. There’s only one problem. When the page number/range cited is different from the original citation, the subsequent citation does not recognise this. I would prefer it to look Like this:

  1. Full citation, p. 10.

  2. Ibid.

  3. Ibid, p. 15.

How can I change this?

Many thanks!

The screenshot of the Page Numbers setting refers to how the information in the Endnote record’s “Pages” field will appear in the bibliography (not the in text citation or footnote). The pagination within the “Pages” field designates the article’s start-and-end page. (Also note that when you edit the output style the changes are saved to a new file with the word “Copy” added – so you will need to change the EndNote setting in MS Word to use the new output style file.)

If you wish to cite particular pages in an in-text citation or footnote you will need to manually edit the citation and include the pages in the Suffix field or possibly the Pages field (the latter if your output style supports this option). Refer to attached image.

Edit the citation/footnote and include the " p. 15" in the Suffix field. For information on editing citations refer to the training video CWYW for Windows: Editing Citations or CWYW-Mac: Edit & Manage Citations .
