how can I change the citing format back?

hey everyone,

I change something on my endnote and whenever i’m tring to cite an article, the citation appears as:

*name, year #number}

and there’s no bibliography.

does anyone have an idea how can i change it back to the regular format: [number] + a bibliography at the end of the document?

thanks!

Hi!

Have you tried clicking on “Update Citations and Bibliography” and Checked that instant formatting is turned on? See attched picture.

Best wishes

hi again,

thank you for your comment.

the “instat formatting” is on and clicking on “update citation and bibliography” doesn’t seem to have an effect.

the citations that is insert still doesn’t appear normaly.

any other ideas what might be the problem?

Try this.

If on a Windows version, in Word, click on the little arrow symbol on the bottom edge of the EndNote ribbon. Check that the delimiters are set to { and }, click ‘OK’. Then try ‘Update Citations and Bibliography’.

If on a Mac, in Word, look in ‘Configure Bibliography’, on the ‘Format Bibliography’ tab please check that the delimiters are set to { and }. Then click ‘OK’ to leave the dialogue box. Then try ‘Update Citations and Bibliography’.

Regards, Bob.

it’s still doen’t work :frowning:

the only difrence it makes is that now the citations appears as:

{name, year number#}

and there’s still no bibliography…

Are you on Mac or Windows?

You say it looks like this:- {name, year number#}. Are you sure it is not this:- {name, year #number}?

What style are you using?

Regards, Bob.

I’m using windows 7, office 2010

indeed, the # comes before the number, i wrote it worng.

i’m using vancuver, but i tried all the styles listed and the problem still wasn’t solved…

Does it work on a new created document?  If no – there maybe something wrong with the output styles listed.

Make a new copy of your document and work on that.  (You can try copy and paste everything except the last paragraph symbol).

– Try changing the style by “selecting another style” and picking one from the full list?

Try turning off Instant formating and then on again.

Try turning off instant formating and then convert citations and bibliography to unformatted citations, then try update citation and bibliography.

Make a new copy of your document and work on that.

if a new document works then  the current document maybe corrupted?  Are the temporary citations (which is what those are) are grey when you click in one?

Try turning off instant formating and then convert citations and bibliography to unformatted citations, (you may get an error message saying there aren’t any formated citations)  – Then remove field codes (select all and Ctrl+6)  and then try update citation and bibliography.

These steps are outlined in more detail here:  http://endnote.com/kb/81143

I have the exact same problem… Has anyone managed to help you?

Thanks

Steve
