Endnote X4 installation error

Hello,

I can’t instal Endnote X4. It presents a warning saying that Open Office is running. I do have Open Office installed but it is not running at the point of installation. I follwed the instructions to try again - failed or exit and reboot. It still failed. Any ideas?

You very likley have the OpenOffice.org Quickstarter open - see the attached screen shot. This needs to be closed in order for EndNote to install properly.

Are you certain you don’t have the OpenOffice Quick Launcher running in the taskbar?

I seem to have an issue that seems related.

I installed windows 7, now when I reinstall X4 I get the message “openoffice is running”, however openoffice is not even installed at my pc (I use MS word). I rebooted the system but the issue remained.

This is likely due to a process running in the background for OpenOffice that needs to be closed.

  1. Click [Control]+[Alt]+[Delete] to bring up the Task Manager.
  2. Go to the Processes tab.
  3. Click on “soffice.bin” and click the End Process button.
  4. Click OK.

Once this is done, you should be able to complete the installation.
