how to un-highlight endnote refs in word

Hello,

Ever since I added a table of contents to my word document, all my endnote references are highlighted gray, as if I had selected them. Even if I quit and re-open the document, they still appear gray (this has happened to my page numbers as well, for some reason). I can’t figure out how to turn this off. Any ideas? It’s probably something simple… I hope so anyway!

Thanks,

Rosemary

p.s. using Endnote X2, Word 2004.

This is a MS Word setting.  Go to  Tools, options, View tab (at least in word 2003 and previous, don’t know about word 2007)  top section frar right, Field shading:  you want it to be “When selected” as opposed to “Always”.

Thanks! Didn’t work exactly the same way (forgot to mention I’m on a mac), but I figured out how to translate it to my platform. Funny how the shading got turned on in the first place, since it had never happened before…

Thanks again,

Rosemary

I have a Mac too - can you tell me how to un-highlight?

Thanks,
