Hi,  I am having trouble sorting my bibliography.  I want it sorted oldest at the top to newest at the bottom (sorted by year).  I can’t seem to find the correct Bibliograpgy sort order comand to do this.  thanks.

Sort in Bibliography setting of your output style.  

(see attached image).  Then save as to a new name and apply that to the manuscript or to the “export” options from the File export (as RTF) if you want them in a standalone document.      (oops, first image was Z to A sorted- which would be newest to oldest.  - it should be (as new attachment) sorted A to Z for oldest to newest.)

I can’t get this to work… Slight difference, in my case, I want to sort first by the first author’s last name, then by year (oldest first).

I have attached a screenshot of the sorting window. I’ve saved the output style as a new style and tried updating the bibliography as well as closing and re-opening the Word document, just in case. I’m using EndNote X7, too, and Word 2010.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Make sure the first author’s names are exactly the same.  (Copy and past one from the other).  Can you attach the edited  output style .ens file to a reply?  It should be in your library documents personal folder in an endnote/styles folder.

I somehow managed to get it to work now. The author names were exactly the same from the beginning, but I double-checked.

I guess what made the difference is that I now sorted by “First author”, not just by “Author”, and then by year, then by secondary author. By some weird coincidence, the names of the secondary authors were such that it appeared the sorting was by year (newest first).
