When inserting cite as you wirte in my paper the references are appearing with the “#” sign (i.e. #23) after the author name AND brackets are around each reference. Any suggestions what I am doing wrong? Never had this problem before
It sounds like you might be seeing “temporary” citations which are encased in curly braces and displaying the author name, year, and record number. For example: {Jones, 2003 #6}. Temporary citations appear when Endnote’s “Instant Formatting” is turned off (intentionally or accidentally).
To turn on Instant Formatting go to the Endnote X7 section in the MS Word ribbon and just below the “Categorize References” click the pull down menu to select “Instant Formatting is on”. The formatted in-text citations and references should be automatically generated but if not click the “Update Citations and Bibliography” command.
