Singular / Plural Operator (^) does not work // Editing Output Styles

Dear community,

I want to add page numbers in the brackets of each of my citations. For citations only stemming from one page, the citation should look like this: (Huf, 2020, p. 132). For citations relying upon more than one page, the citation should look like this: (Huf, 2020, pp. 135-145).

To achieve this, I have adjusted the output style templates like this: (Author,*Year,*p.^pp.*Cited Pages|), with * being the Link Adjacent operator. Unfortunately, this template leaves me with this citation, for cases with single and double pages: (Huf, 2020, p.^pp. 132). The ^ operator, which should distinguish between cases for single and multiple pages somehow does not work and I cannot figure out why…

Do you have any recommendations on how to fix this?

Any help is highly appreciated!!

sometimes it is hard to see a difference in the text, so I sometimes just go and copy it from another template that is working. – I think APA 7th is one that uses this – and it has (Author, |Year|,*p.^pp.*Cited Pages|) – which worked for me – when I removed the separation operators surrounding the year, it stopped working correctly.
