CWYW plug-in vs word 2016

Hi everyone!

I am a user of the EndNote Web and recently I have downloaded the Cite While You Write plug-in for Mac. I have the MS Word 2016, but it failed to show the EndNote toolbar. I have reinstalled and checked all the settings, but it just do not appear. I guess there is something wrong with the plug-in - wich I got from the EndNote website - or maybe it’s just not compatible with this version of Word.

I hope someone would help me on this one.

Thanks a lot!

I can’t believe that Endnote is so pathetically not upto date… I have just spent the last three hours trying to get Endnote 7 to work with my Office 2016 only to finally find out that the two are not compatible… Thank you very much.

Endnote obviously has absoblutely no value for an individual’s time!! It would have been a simple matter of adding a note saying “Please note that this version of Endnote is not compatible with Micrcosoft Office 2016” under the download tab…!!! Is this that difficult…!!!

I agree…too much time… =(

First of all, sorry my bad english.

I found a way to by-pass Thomson Reuters and install endnote X7 on Word 2016.

  1. Uninstall all office programs

  2. Install office 2013 version (I installed only word)

  3. Install Endnote x7

  4. Install office 2016 and voilà: appears endnote function on word 2016’s ribbon!

It’s annoying, but it worked for me…

Who wants to check, the print screen of word screen is located at: i60.tinypic.com/5plt3p.png

I have same problem in Dec 2015.   I tried all their poasted suggestions anfd none worked

There is a beta now available for Word 2016 on the Mac.  Please see this forum post:

Any help for Office 2016 in Windows 10?

Any help for Office 2016 in Windows 10? The tab in Word exists, but it is only syncing to my online EndNote Library and not to the software installed on my computer. I am unable to cite from the EndNote software to the MS Office word document.

Any help would be welcome.

Anthing new on this front?

I use Endnote online and would like to have cite-while-you-write on MSWord 2016. However, the Endnote tool does not appear in Word after installation of the CWYW plug-in.

I have been using EndNote 7.4 with Word 2016 with no problems on my laptop. When I had a new desktop computer built, I cannot get Word to even recognize the existence of EndNote.

Not sure why the two are acting differently, except possibly that my laptop also has 2013 on it because I need it for teaching classes.

I would like to use the beta, but your it says ‘access denied’ when I click your link.  I’m wasting a lot of time trying to get CWYW plugin to work in Word 2016.  Please inform.

And how do I get permission to download this Beta-Version?

I am registered and I am using the Endnote Web license from university.

1-close  allmicrosoft programs and enndnote

2-Go to programs and features in the control panel

3-search for the endnote

4-click on it then click on the ‘repair’ tab

voila it is right in the ribbon again.

I hope this is helpful

Thank you!

I did what you suggested but it did not automatically come up as a ribbon for me.

My steps (after repairing in control panel):

  1. File - Options

  2. Select the Add-ins section

  3. In the Manage part select “Disabled Items” and click Go…

  4. Enable endnote

  5. Repeat 3. But select “COM Add-ins”

  6. Tick endnote and click OK

Voila! EndNote ribbon baby!

Note: Not sure if you can skip 3. and go straight to 5. but either way is quick!

Thank you!

im agree with you

Here’s what i did to get it to [FINALLY] work. It’s a variant of this article, but much simpler:

First, I used this link to download the EndNote CWYW Word 2016.dmg app.

http://download.endnote.com/downloads/plugins/Cite%20While%20You%20Write.dmg

Ran the app. It appears as a folder in APPLICATIONS. Right beneath it is the ENDNOTE X7 folder.  I copied the “EndNote CWYW Word 2016.bundle”  in the Cite While You Write folder to the Endnote X7/cite whileypu write folder. Ran customizer again, and there it was.

Cheers,

Michael

Thank you for the link to the clear instructions for Windows 10 and Word 2016.

I discovered that I cannot “Add” EndNote Cite While You Write because the location for the file “EndNote Cwyw.dll” is hidden in “Program Files (x86)\EndNote X4\ EndNote.exe”

In both my locations for “Common Files” there is no “ResearchSoft\ …”

I did for EndNote the “repair.” The EndNote software seems fine. I just can’t do the Add-in to get Cite WhileYou Write, which is so useful.

Is there anything else I can do?
