Working with Apple Pages

In Pages, the EndNote commands are accessed from the Edit and Insert menus - not from a toolbar. You can see a screen shot in this thread - http://community.thomsonreuters.com/t5/EndNote-General/Working-with-Apple-Pages/td-p/3686/page/2

Thanks for that. I’ll stick with Word, then - the toolbar is just so much easier, IMO.

I’m currently working on a paper and have collected a number of quotes, all indicated with Endnote Harvard Style. Now, whenever I move a quote around the document using copy/paste, the author and year ‘element’ (e.g. Smith: 453) becomes normal text and the respective item disappears from my bibliography. After I have pasted the quote including the reference, I then need to enter the respective reference again using cmd+shift+e. This isn’t a problem with a number of quotes, but I’m working with 300+ quotes at the moment.

Hello, I usually use endnotes with MSWord, but since the Lion update it is going on the fritz so for the time being I am using Apple pages '09. when i insert a citation, nothing but a space appears, the citation is included in my bib, but there is no in text.

also, is it possible to link CWYW to an endnote web account?

Dear Friends,

I downloaded Endnote 4.0.2 and I’ve just bought Pages 4.1 for Lion. There is not an option to insert citation. I restarted and nothing. Pages and Endnote are not working together. See the shot that I atached.

Any advice?

Thank you,

A.S.

Per this posting on the Thomson Reuters page (http://www.endnote.com/enosx.asp):

Lion 10.7 Compatibility News

Current versions are not officially compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. We are testing EndNote X4, X3 and X2 with Lion to determine informal compatibility and will report any exceptions found. Customer reports have been positive thus far. Official compatibility will be available in EndNote X5, estimated to release in September.

We will continue to update this page should any issues be discovered.

Have you looked at this thread?  I think that most have been able to get it to work with Lion.

There have already been several mentions of how frustrating it is to not be able to update a reference in Endnote and then be able to refresh it in Pages. This is trivial in Word and makes Pages essentially useless. In the meantime, the need to delete then reinsert each updated reference is ridiculous. This is made even more ridiculous by the fact that it doesn’t work! I’ve reinserted several references and about half the time it works, and half the time it reverts back to how I had it before, even though I’ve updated and saved the reference in Endnote. I’ve even quit Endnote and Pages, but some of the references still won’t refresh when they’re reinserted. I’ve tried making new footnotes and it will work ok in the new footnote, but then if I try and consolidate the footnotes to how I actually want them, the reference reverts back. So weird and so annoying. Any suggestions?

To allow unformatted EndNote citations with Pages '09 - there is a work-around.

Modify an existing Style so that the Citation Templates is: {Author, Year #Record Number}, for Author Lists, set it to 1, and for initials, set it to “Last Name Only”. This modified style can be saved as a new style, e.g., “EndNoteTemplate”.  The use of this style will produce the unformatted citation format that can be recognized by Word. While there will still be a Bibliography/Reference List associated with the previous formatting in Pages, that Bibliography can be deleted in Word.
